The Lost Old Town of Berlin
/ 2026 / … In this video, we explore the history of Berlin’s Old Town – a lost piece of Berlin that has vanished forever. We follow the streets of the Nikolai Quarter, visit Spittelmarkt and Molkenmarkt, and document the magnificent Gründerzeit facades that once formed the heart of Berlin. For over 700 years, Berlin’s Old Town was the city’s center – with medieval churches, half-timbered houses, bustling market squares, and impressive buildings. The Berlin Palace, one of Europe’s most important palaces, dominated the cityscape. Everything was destroyed – by war and targeted demolition after 1945. Today, this Berlin exists only in historical photographs.
