Georg Friedrich Händel Flavio, Re de’ Longobardi

Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival Georg Friedrich Händel Flavio, Re de’ Longobardi.
The artistic director and creative director of the Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival, Max Emanuel Cenčić, is not only directing the Handel opera “Flavio, Re de’ Longobardi”, but is also taking on the role of the young Guido himself. Julia Lezhneva sings the title role. The Bayreuth Baroque Opera Festival stages musical theatre in the authentic ambience of the Margravial Opera House. There are very few Baroque theaters in such a good original condition: the magnificent interior shines with golden ornaments, the colorful wood paneling transports the audience into the long-gone world of brocade skirts and powdered wigs. This year there are two new scenic productions at Bayreuth Baroque, one of them directed by Max Emanuel Cenčić, the artistic director and creative head of the festival. He has chosen a rather rarely performed Handel opera: “Flavio, Re de’ Longobardi”. Cenčić also immediately takes on one of the main roles himself: that of the young Guido, who has to fight for his love at the court of the Lombard king. In addition, brilliant names of Baroque opera such as Julia Lezhneva, Yuriy Mynenko, Sonja Runje or Bayreuth debutant Rémy Brès-Feuillet sing in the title role. They will be accompanied by this year’s Residenzorchester Concerto Köln under Benjamin Bayl.
