Bach-Busoni Chaconne

Arthur Rubinstein
. . .
Beatrice Berrut, Piano.
Beatrice Berrut plays the Chaconne in d-minor by Bach-Busoni. Bach’s Chaconne forms the final movement of his Partita no. 2 for violin. It has become one of the best-known pieces written for violin and, as a result, has inspired a number of composers to transcribe it. Busoni’s majestic transcriptions is not entirely faithful to the original. It is more in the manner of a broad re-interpretation of the Chaconne for piano with little attention paid to the tone colour of the original. With its recurring cadences, lyric passages, bold use of tritones, it gives the feeling to enter a great cathedral of sound, close to colours of organ. —————————————————————-FOLLOW Beatrice Berrut:
