𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 Movie: This animated French film tells the story of an elderly woman named Madame Souza who takes care of her orphaned grandson Champion, a professional cyclist, who’s unexpectedly kidnapped while competing in the Tour de France. With the help of The Triplets of Belleville, an elderly trio of singers, and her faithful dog, Souza ventures out to find him. The distinctive animation style and catchy tunes add to the film’s enchanting atmosphere. 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗿: Richard Neupert (PhD Wisconsin) coordinates Film Studies at the University of Georgia where he is the Charles H. Wheatley Professor of the Arts and a Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Professor. His books on French cinema include A HISTORY OF THE FRENCH NEW WAVE CINEMA, FRENCH ANIMATION HISTORY, and FRENCH FILM HISTORY (1895-1946). He is Co-President of the Board for the non-profit Ciné movie theater in Athens, GA.
