/ 2020 / … In 1919 a powerful double-snouted electric locomotive of the type Ce 6/8 II, number 14253, was delivered to the Swiss State Railways, the SBB. Since that year, “crocodiles” have been roaming the Swiss rails, mostly on the stretch of track through the Gotthard tunnel. On the 19th of October, 2019, the SBB Historic organization celebrated this 100th anniversary with a vintage passenger train that was triple-headed by the last surviving “crocodiles” that are still in running condition. Number 14253, together with two successor models, Be 6/8 lll 13302 (from 1922) and Ce 6/8 III 14305 (1925), once again conquered the Gotthard mountain route from Erstfeld to Bellinzona and back. We see the three locomotives and the train being assembled in Erstfeld, as well as images taken in the train during the trip to Bellizona. There we also glimpse the SBB loco Re 4/4 II 11192 that was attached at the front of the train in Bodio south of the Gotthard pass in order to use its internal signaling equipment.
