Bryn Terfel

/ 2022 / … ST DAVID’S HALL
Bryn Terfel performing “Non più andrai” from Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro during the final of the 1989 BBC Cardiff Singer Of The World competition. The phenomenal showdown with contemporary Dmitri Hvorostovsky during the Main Prize final soon became known as the ‘Battle of the Baritones’ and, until this day, marks one of the highlights of the competition’s history. The Welsh bass-baritone won the newly introduced Lieder Prize that year. Initially associated with Mozart (Figaro, Leporello and Don Giovanni in particular), he has since moved on to heavier roles as found in Puccini’s and Wagner’s catalogues.
