Correlation, Causation, or Cover Up?

This is the third time I’ve had Ignored Science on my show. Obviously that’s his pseudonym. He’s an actively practising health practitioner in the communist state of China, and as we all know, if he were to reveal his real name he would be censored, sanctioned, investigated and struck off by his regulatory body.
In this episode I sat down to discuss vaccines yet again, but particularly the HPV vaccine and the claims linking HPV to cancer. We spent a lot of time on causation versus correlation, and what it actually takes to establish that a vaccine causes harm rather than simply appearing alongside it. We went through the standards for causation claims in medicine and used the Bradford Hill criteria as our framework.
Ignored Science made it clear that the evidence for HPV vaccination preventing cervical cancer is not as solid as what the public is told. We talked about the Cochrane reviews, which are far from the gold standard of science they’re often claimed to be. We looked at other established risk factors for cervical cancer, such as smoking and sexual history, and questioned why HPV vaccination is so often presented as the sole solution. This is not correct.
We talked about the issue with the pharmaceutical industry, and its many criminal acts, fines and behaviour that, if it were a person, would disqualify them from any trust, and why that history makes scrutiny of vaccine promotion reasonable rather than fringe.

We also focused on adverse event reporting, and why not only do we think, but we know, that it’s underreported. We discussed data suggesting rising cancer rates in vaccinated populations, including concerning rates in people under the age of fifty, and talked through what the number needed to vaccinate looks like when you weigh it against potential harm. We questioned how vaccine efficacy is actually measured, since it’s often based on antibody production rather than genuine disease prevention. We also spent some time on aluminium in vaccines and its possible role in chronic inflammation.
